UMCOR is the humanitarian relief and development agency of the United Methodist Church, a worldwide denomination.    Since 2006, Lakewood has sponsored two students who attend Nuevo Horizonte (New Horizon). This is a private Christian school in Paraguay founded by Mark and Joanna Waltz, United Methodists who reside in Erie. Our current students we support are Sebastion and Jennifer.  

        The cost to educate one child at Nuevo Horizonte is only $480 a year which includes lunch, books and supplies.  You have seen the "CHANGE THE WORLD" bucket in the Narthex every Sunday. This is the main source of funding to sponsor our two children. There are red cups available in the narthex that you can use to collect your change throughout the week, then bring in on Sunday to place in the bucket. You can also make a tax-deductible donation by writing a check to "Samaritan Hands/Paraguay" and placing in it the bucket.
