Giving at Lakewood UMC
Your giving is an act of worship and makes possible
all the diverse ministries of the church.
Thank you for supporting Lakewood United Methodist Church.
Your tithes and offerings enable the church to fulfill our vision:
“Our Vision is to help people discover, experience and
know the love and presence of Jesus Christ! "
“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all
the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as
ever you can."
- John Wesley, founder of Methodism
Lakewood encourages members to give regularly scheduled donations. This is the most convenient way to give, and it can be done at any designated level. Donations can be split as desired between the General Budget, Building Fund, Benevolence and other designated giving.
Some have asked about setting up Lakewood UMC as a regular payee
in their personal online banking account.
This is a convenient way to manage all donations in one place. If you choose this method, be sure to note how you would like your funds designated (e.g. General Budget or other designated). Use the church’s main address: 3856 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16505. (Your contribution will be posted when the counters process your check)
Positive comments from people who are using their banks Online Bill-Pay.
(Can be done either weekly or monthly.)
“We love being able to know our tithes/offerings are going to Lakewood
each week, even when we miss a week”
“We have our bank send the check once a month and love it.”
By Check or Cash:
Of course, checks or cash may also be given during the Offering at Sunday service
(If you are unable to attend), you can make checks payable to:
and mail to
3856 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16505)
Members have asked about AUTO GIVE, where regular pledge donations are transferred from a bank directly to Lakewood UMC. If there is enough interest in this method we may start this in the future. An AUTO GIVE form would be required to authorize Lakewood UMC to draft your bank account. If you are interested in the method please contact Richard Estes.
Thank you all so much for using your envelopes when possible - it helps the counters with the posting of offerings. Please, always remember to mark clearly on the envelope when designating part of your offerings to items like Family Outreach, Pastor Discretionary, Lakewood Missions, Red Bird Mission, Erie Alliance, Flowers (Altar, Easter, Christmas), Memorials (with name of person), Newspaper, etc.
Other Ways of Giving at Lakewood UMC
Giving Stock or Mutual Funds:
Some members gain tax advantages by donating appreciated stock or mutual funds. You can also make direct rollovers to Lakewood UMC from an IRA. Contact Richard Estes for information on these types of donations.
Leaving a Lasting Gift for Lakewood
Lakewood has been very blessed over the last few years by a number of people who have left lasting gifts or IRA contributions to Lakewood. Thanks to each and their families.
A Lasting Gift to Lakewood:
Does Lakewood UMC have a way for me to leave a lasting gift? How does it work? Yes, Lakewood has an endowment program with several funds you can choose . Your designated gift goes to the specific fund and is added to the principal that is already in the fund. The principal is never used (unless something catastrophic happens at Lakewood). The interest from the investments is returned to Lakewood each year to be used in the designated areas to benefit Lakewood.
Gifts can be made to any of the following funds:
Lakewood UMC Special Account:
These are Gifts designated to Lakewood for specific future projects. This account holds monies To be used for projects like the back parking lot and air conditioning. This is the only fund set up to use principal when the project is ready to be started.
If you would like more information please contact the church office or write to
